Turn WhatsApp chats into shareable links

Preserve Chat turns a WhatsApp chat into a link. You open the chat you exported from WhatsApp, choose the messages that matter, and share them as one page that the people you send it to can open in a browser and read like the original conversation. It is for the times a conversation matters beyond the phone it lives on: keeping the messages of someone you have lost, holding on to an exchange you want to come back to, or showing someone exactly what was said.

What Preserve Chat does

WhatsApp can already export a chat. What you get is a long text file with a timestamp on every line, which keeps the conversation but is hard to read and harder to show anyone. Preserve lays that file out as a conversation again, and turns the part you choose into a link.

  1. Export the chat from WhatsApp, as a TXT file or a ZIP with media.
  2. Open it in Preserve. Your browser reads the file and lays it out as a conversation, on your own device.
  3. Search for a word you remember, or jump to a date, to find the exchange you mean.
  4. Choose a first and last message, and preview the selection as the reader will see it.
  5. Create a link, and send it to the people who need to read it.

Messages from someone you have lost

After someone dies, a WhatsApp conversation with them can become one of the most personal things you have, and it lives on one phone, inside one app. Exporting it gives you a copy of your own. Preserve lets you read it as it looked, when you are ready to, and share one exchange with family without handing anyone the whole chat.

Memories worth rereading

The first messages with a partner, a trip planned over months, the joke a group still quotes. A saved export keeps them, but nobody rereads a text file. A conversation page is something you actually come back to, and something you can pass on to the people who were part of it.

Disputes, lawyers, and anything formal

When a landlord, an employer, an insurer, or a lawyer needs to see what was agreed, what helps them is the relevant exchange, in order, with the dates visible and nothing to download. A link does that in a way a folder of screenshots does not.

Preserve does not make a conversation evidence, and no tool can make one admissible. That is for a court to decide. Keep the original export file unchanged, and when a process asks for a document to attach, print the export to PDF.

Group plans, decisions, and everyday exchanges

Most shared conversations are ordinary: a plan settled in a family group, instructions someone needs to follow, the decision a team reached, the part of a group chat a relative missed. Choosing a first and last message means you share that part and leave everyone else’s messages out of it.

How it treats what you share

  • Your export is read in your browser. Nothing is uploaded while you read, search, or choose a range.
  • When you create a link, only the messages in the range you chose are uploaded. The rest of the chat never leaves your device.
  • A shared link is private and unguessable, and it is not listed or indexed by search engines. It has no password, so anyone you send it to can open it and forward it.
  • There are no accounts. You get a master link when you share, and it lets you delete the page whenever you want. A shared chat does not expire on its own.
  • Shared chats are encrypted in transit and at rest, with keys we hold. That is not end-to-end encryption. We do not read shared chats, sell them, or use them to train models.

What Preserve is not

  • It is not part of WhatsApp. Preserve Chat is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by WhatsApp or Meta.
  • It is not a backup. An export cannot be restored into WhatsApp, and nothing here moves your chats to a new phone.
  • It cannot recover messages. It works with what is in the export, and a message or photo missing from the file cannot be brought back.
  • It does not produce a PDF or a printout. What you share is a link.
