Terms of service
Last updated 18 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and DC Software (“Preserve Chat”, “we”) for the use of preserve.chat and app.preserve.chat. Using the service means you accept them.
What the service does
Preserve Chat reads a WhatsApp chat export, presents it as a readable conversation, and lets you publish a selected range of it as a link someone can open in a browser.
It is not a WhatsApp backup, it cannot restore messages into WhatsApp, and it cannot recover a conversation that was never exported. It does not produce a PDF, and it makes no claim about whether a conversation can be used as evidence anywhere. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
Your conversations stay yours
You keep every right you have in the conversations you upload and share. We claim no ownership of them.
To display a shared link, you give us permission to store and show the messages in the range you selected, to the people who open that link, for as long as the link is active. That permission exists so the product can work, it covers nothing beyond that, and it ends when you delete the shared chat.
What you are responsible for
A conversation involves people who are not you. Before you publish one, you are responsible for deciding whether you are entitled to share it.
- You confirm you obtained the export lawfully and have the right to share the part you publish.
- You take responsibility for the other participants’ personal information in anything you share, including deciding how much of it a recipient actually needs.
- You will not use the service to harass, threaten, blackmail, defame, or expose someone, or to publish intimate images or someone’s personal details without their consent.
- You will not upload malware, attempt to break into the service or other people’s shared chats, scrape it, or overload it.
- You are responsible for who you send a link to, for keeping your master link private, and for revoking a share when you are done with it.
Removal and suspension
We can remove a shared chat or suspend an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to by law. Where it is practical and lawful to tell you, we will.
To report a shared conversation that should not be public, write to team@preserve.chat with the link and the reason.
Availability and changes
The service is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will parse every export format correctly.
Shared conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest, and we take their security seriously, but no service can promise perfect security. Preserve is not end-to-end encrypted: we hold the keys, and we may be required to decrypt a shared chat to comply with the law.
Features can change, and the service can be discontinued. Keep your original WhatsApp export file. It is the copy that matters, and a shared link is not a substitute for it.
Limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data or lost profits, or for the consequences of a conversation you chose to share. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Where a limit applies, our total liability is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or the minimum the law permits if that is greater.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using the service at any time, and you can delete your shared chats. There is no account to close. We can end your access if you break these terms. The sections on your content, liability, and governing law survive the end of the agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Disputes arising out of them are subject to the state and federal courts located in Delaware.
If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protections you have under the law of the country where you live, or your right to bring a claim there.
Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the service afterwards means the new terms apply. Questions go to team@preserve.chat.
